Around 90% of women suffer severe pre-menstrual symptoms which affect them physically, emotionally and psychologically. Some of the symptoms most women experience during hormonal changes that occur around menstruation are cramps, fatigue, intense cravings, higher anxiety levels, irritability and mood swings. Many doctors prescribe medications to alleviate the symptoms, however, here at Moosh we like to opt for holistic alternatives before turning, leaning over and grabbing the Advil. Some of four favorite ways to alleviate these symptoms are:
Eating balanced: best foods are omega-3 rich foods such as salmon, flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, butternut squash. When you increase these foods then your cravings for salty or sweet foods decrease. Most importantly, we encourage you to look at food as fuel.
Supplements to support: Magnesium glycinate, Vitamin B6, primrose oil (take in the evening), Omega-3, and Holy Basil.
Increasing the intake of fluids and herbal teas, such as Chamomile and Raspberry Leaf.
Acupuncture is great for PMS as it lowers stress hormones and stimulates neurotransmitters that then impact our menstrual cycles, ovulation and fertility, and help manage period cramps and other PMS symptoms.
Placing heat pads on your abdomen and lower back to relieve pain. We love this Sonoma Lavender Pillow.
Essential Oils: such as lavender to help calm the system.
